My Little Red has gotten better with foods, but there was a time when cooking dinner for him was a nightmare. He was very vocal about it too as all kids are. “I don’t like this.” “It takes like poop.” And people wonder why they call it “mommy juice.” I was a single mom back then too and making two meals was a lot of work for just me. One of my son’s favorite dishes was buttered pasta. This Creamy Kids Pasta is a take on that. I’m giving you an easy recipe, very basic, and depending on what your kids like and don’t like, you can add ingredients to it.
Frozen green peas… I LOVE THEM! They’re sweet, yummy, and I don’t get the usual complaints. They are perfect for this easy recipe because they’re ready in no time. Easy peasy. 😉 I even puree peas and stick them in stuff. Sometimes, sneaking veggies into food is the only way.
Other vegetables you can add:
carrots – cooked and diced
spinach – frozen and chopped
broccoli – fresh, chopped into pieces
cucumber ribbons – kids love ribbons
sweet potato- cooked and chopped into pieces
butternut squash- cooked and chopped into pieces
parsnip- puree and mix in with the crème fraîche
corn- you could even use canned corn
asparagus- fresh and chopped into pieces
green beans- fresh and chopped into pieces
Bust out your spiralizer. Zoodles are always a big hit with kids.
One of his other favorites is this Amish Macaroni Salad.
You can use sour cream to make this Creamy Kids Pasta, but I like the thickness and richness of crème fraîche. I’m using regular pasta here. I’ve made it using whole wheat pasta, and my Little Red never noticed a difference. I sometimes add grated parmesan, diced ham, or pieces of bacon to make it a more complete meal.

Ingredients
- ½ box of thin spaghetti
- ¾ cup creme fraiche or sour cream
- ¼ cup frozen green peas
- salt
Instructions
Make the spaghetti according to the package instructions.
One minute before the pasta is ready, add the frozen green peas.
Drain the spaghetti and the peas together. Don’t worry if they are still frozen. They will finish cooking with the heat from the pasta.
In a large bowl, add the pasta, peas (or whatever veggies you are using), crème fraîche and salt.
Mix together well and serve.
Easy peasy!
Notes
Depending on what your kids like and don’t like, you can add ingredients to it.
You can use sour cream to make this Creamy Kids Pasta.
