Move down the dough about an inch and do the same thing until you reach the end of the dough.

When you are done with one side, do the same to the other, trying to keep the same amount of slices on each side.

Once each side has all of the diagonal slices cut, take the first 1inch strip and pull it up and over top of the filling and pull it slightly down.

Then go to the opposite side and again, pull the slice of dough up over the filling and slightly down, creating a “v” shape over top of the filling.

Continue this pattern, alternating sides every time until you reach the end of the dough creating a braided look to the dough.

The very last pieces can get tucked underneith the dough to seal it in.

What’s the Difference Between Pizza Dough and Bread Dough?

For some, you might not have known there is a difference between pizza dough and bread dough, and that is completely okay!

Honestly, there is not a lot of difference when it comes down to the ingredients that go into making the dough. It has more to do with the amount of the ingredients. Baking Kneeds has a wonderfully detailed answer to the differences between bread dough and pizza dough that you can check out for a great answer!

How Do You Stretch Store Bought Pizza Dough?

Generally, dough will stretch best when it is at room temperature. So, if you are looking for a thinner crust, pull the dough out about 45-60 minutes before you need it so the dough will stretch better without breaking.

Then you can hold onto the dough, turning it like a steering wheel. As you turn it it will begin to stretch out even more. Continue turning the dough until you reach your desired thinness.

However, for this recipe, no stretching is required! Just open the can of refrigerated dough, roll it out, and you are ready to go!

  4. Charley says:

oohhh I'm sooo trying this next time!!
Do you use all-purpose flour in your dough? I switched to 00 grade flour in my pizza dough and it makes such a difference. Our favourite topping is caramelised onion and goats cheese.

  5. DebbyW says:

I am making this tonight!!! Thank you!!!!!

  6. Aimee says:

Mmmm this looks so good. We eat pizza so much, and I dont have a pregnancy to excuse myself for that. we've made a goal to not eat pizza for 3 weeks, because normally we have it twice a week, but once we are done I will most definitely be making this. Yum!

  11. Christina @ A Beautiful Mess says:

I made this on Friday night for my family and they LOVED it! My canned pizza dough was expired (embarrassingly so) but I used my favorite quick, easy dough recipe and rolled it out into a rectangular shape and it worked great! Everyone said it was better than take out pizza. Definitely a keeper!

  12. Carrie @ My Favorite Finds says:

WE LOVE pizza in our house. IF you want, come over and link this to my Must Try Monday link party right now. I am going to pin this to my "pizza" board :).

  13. Mia Albert says:

We love this unique concept for pizza! We weren't big fans of the pre made refrigerated pizza dough, so next time we will use homemade dough, but we WILL be making this again!

  14. KatVonG says:

Have made it twice (it's in the oven right now). The family loves it! Thanks for such a fun and easy recipe.

  15. Cheerful Homemaker says:

  16. Tina C says:

I just found this recipe, (I know, I know, it's been up for over a year) Anyway, I am looking forward to trying it but was wondering if it freezes well? Can I make them ahead of time and freeze them for a rainy day (so to speak)? If so, would you bake it first and then freeze? Thanks!

  17. Cyd says:

We have not frozen it, but we don't know why it wouldn't work. May be a little soggy from sauce, but not much. Let us know if it works. Always nice to have meals prepared that you can tuck away and pull out in short notice. :)

  18. Jill Alford says:

This was a hit and so easy to throw together! The olive oil, garlic powder, italian seasoning and Parmesan was the perfect finishing touch.
