------------------------------

(Y/n) looked at the seductive fox as his piercing heterochromia eyes looked straight at him. (Y/n) didn't know how to respond as he looked away and back multiple times.

Suddenly an item was thrown at (Y/n)'s face before he quickly caught it. He looked at the pack of cards (Y/n) and was indeed surprised. "Huh how interesting, it's indeed odd."

(Y/n) unboxed the cards feeling the way the brand-new cards slide against each other. Almost as if lube was placed between them. "Too bad it's a magician's deck. Could have been proven useful...eh?" (Y/n) then noticed an odd card. Taking the card out separately he looked at the small piece of paper that stood out. "Odd.." He mumbled. Kuya suddenly appeared behind him, "What are you looking at?"

"Nothing, just noticing something off. Oh, we can play a few other games without the jokers." (Y/n) began to set up rummy. "Here's how you play it, you get three of the same card or three in a run like this," he held up a three, four, and five, "But with the run, you must have three of the same house, or same symbol in easier terms. If it's with three of the same number, then it can be any house or color. Let's have a practice round."

After a few days of different games, different types of games, and even with open-facing cards. Kuya lost almost every round the Yokai finally got sick of it. "What kind of trick are you pulling with me? Do you think I won't notice? I can send you back anytime." He didn't understand, even though he could see (Y/n)'s cards the man never showed a hint of thought on his face. His eyes would be closed even, Kuya would tell him his cards and what was on the table, and even then he would win. It was so frustrating!

(Y/n) merely smiled, ignoring the last comment, "You didn't see any trick because I didn't pull any trick."

"You-!" Just before Kuya would continue arguing he pulled himself together. "Alright, let's see if you still want to lie to me after this. You must be a master at lying, or you have dealt with liars. What did Edien say your job was again?"

"Card...dealer." (Y/n) responded, Kuya caught on.

"How about you deal with something else hmm?" Kuya hummed as he licked his lips, leaning over the table he pushed (Y/n) down to the floor, sitting on (Y/n)'s stomach.

"Uhh, if this is what I'm thinking then-" (Y/n) was shushed as Kuya looked at him with a glare.

"K-kuya, let's not take this too far huh? You're Eiden's clan member, how could I-?"

"Who said you were the one doing it, dirty-minded human." Kuya got off of (Y/n)'s stomach and left the blushing male laying there on the floor.

"Kuya you are annoying..." (Y/n) mumbled before getting everything cleaned up on the table. (Y/n) looked away from the direction where Kuya had left and directed his attention to the window nearby his body.

What was he thinking? Him? In bed? With Kuya? Only one of the most feared Yokai in all of this land in bed with him?

Plus, he was Eiden's...there's no one here for him.

(Y/n) walked outside into the forest, not caring if monsters were lurking nearby. Not like he's worth living in this place anyway. Now that he thinks about it, this is kinda like Alice in Wonderland where he's the magician that appears many times in the story. Well, he never had read the book but he assumed there was a magician somewhere in the story.

Sitting by a rock after going into the forest, (Y/n) bumped against a few tree trunks hoping to find some salvation for this feeling he was having uncontrollably inside his heart and mind. He didn't know why but he wanted to just go back a hug Eiden, he didn't want to be here. The first few moments were nice but ultimately Kuya didn't like him.

"Ignore him, ignore it, ignore that tree! Ugh! Nothing is working!" (Y/n) complained sitting on a random rock and pouting his way through life's toughest moments. He's been outside for about an hour by now and nothing is happening. Why couldn't he have just gotten a job or something rather than be sent here to be taken care of by Kuya? Now that he thinks about it, how did Eiden convince Kuya to let him stay here anyway? Of course, he could also be going away by the end of a few days.

"What is that smell?" (Y/n) mumbled as he began walking toward the sweet smell. It was intoxicating to him. Amazing smell compared to what he was doing before. (Y/n) looked around the trees weaving through them before coming across a boiler on the floor. It was just a campfire with a pot over it. Some kind of stew was being made inside the pot.
Seeing that things were about to boil over (Y/n) used his shirt as a temporary glove to get the pot off of the campfire. The stuff inside smelled very good, but it looked nothing like food. Rather more like tree sap is boiled to make syrup. He rather not test it himself.

"Who's making this in the middle of the trees? It could have started a forest fire..." (Y/n) looked around seeing the trees being scary as usual. But...did they move? Another wave of the strong smell of poisonous fumes hit (Y/n) like a brick. Immediately nausea hit his head forcing him to sit down so the world stopped spinning...

A few wings were in his vision.

"We caught him! Foolish humans, always so gullible!" the Yokai said as (Y/n) passed out.

Meanwhile, Kuya was trying to find (Y/n), he didn't want the other here to burden him and his life but (Y/n) was interesting. More than Eiden was to him. More like he could entertain Kuya longer but that's not the point. Kuya searched for the essence-less man before hearing a bounce of other Yokai speaking of the human that was just captured. Huffing in annoyance Kuya immediately knew it was (Y/n) that was there.

Grabbing one of the Yokai by their wings, Kuya pulled him down. "Where is this human that you speak of? Don't lie to me, you know the consequences well."

The Yokai panicked as the location was quickly exposed to Kuya. Satisfied he walked away to the location and saw (Y/n) being tied up in a quite provocative pose. "What do you think you guys are doing?" Kuya stopped what seemed like a cult meeting.

"Kuya-sama!" A braver Yokai went up to him, "This human touched our things without permission, he deserves this punishment!"

"He's my human, under no circ*mstance shall you do anything to him," Kuya said his smirk had a deadly aura to it. The Yokai immediately backed off as Kuya made his way to (Y/n).

"Your human huh?" a soft mumble came from (Y/n), seems like he has heard what Kuya said. He was awake for a while now, just unable to move, "Why would you say that?" (Y/n) mumbled, Kuya said nothing, he continued to walk back to his cottage, and the fog got heavier and heavier.

"Send me back to Eiden's." (Y/n) finally said, disrupting the silence. Kuya seemed to be surprised by what (Y/n) said. His eyes looked down at the person in his arms.

"Send me to Eiden-"

"Why?"

"I'm a burden to you."

"And you think you're not one to him?"

(Y/n) fell silent, truly it was because of that.

"*Sighs* here," Kuya handed (Y/n) the card stack they were playing with earlier.

"What? Want to lose again?" (Y/n) softly chuckled but that didn't seem to lift his mood much.

"I infused the cards with my essence. You should be able to attack some small animals now." (Y/n) pulled out a card and flung it towards a thick tree branch. The tree branch fell as the card fell as well. (Y/n) looked at his hand, Normally he would just fling cards randomly when he's on a break but he never thought there would be actual damage caused by the little things he does. Of course, videos online often showed how people can make them get stuck in cards but he's never aimed for that.

"They come back as well," Kuya said as the card immediately appeared back between his fingers.
(Y/n) plucked the card off of Kuya's fingers, careful to not cut the other due to the sharp edge the card did not obtain. He looked at Kuya with glossy eyes and just ended up resting his head on the other's shoulders.

"I may be an old fox, but I still know when someone is just trying to get around," Kuya said as the arrived home, (Y/n) looked at the house, simple. Elegant. It shows no sign of disturbance probably because it has not been disturbed by Yokais of any shape or form. (Y/n) stepped on the grass once Kuya got there, the man went inside first leaving (Y/n) in his trail.

"So...peaceful..." (Y/n) mumbled and laid down on the grass, dirtying the fancy clothes that he was forced to change into when one of Aster's pets almost mauled him a few days ago before arriving at Kuya's place.

Shivering at the thought he closed his eyes and bathed in the sunlight.

Warm.

Fresh air.

The smell of flowers.

The smell of him.

Him being unable to see through tricks.

Such a cute flaw...

(Y/n) smiled as he rested as he held the cards close to his chest.

"He cares about me, at least a little..."

"It's not your fault Kuya, it was a poison the yokai had made on their bodies, there is no cure," Eiden said as he looked at Kuya.

Kuya believed it because he had tried interrogating the Yokai who did this and the other immediately confessed.
They were all wearing black, a traditional color back on earth for funerals.

"I care not for that human, don't rope me into this like you always do," Kuya said coldly, his back facing Eiden.

"I saw the way you look at him, I'm not as old as you, I don't understand what you think at all but this is one of the times where I know why you're here. You're wearing black anyways, aren't you? What's the use in sulking by yourself if all you are doing is just punishing yourself... Just come say goodbye to him!" Eiden yelled, attracting the attention of the rest of the clan members.

"You don't control what I do." Kuya walked away, his flowy dark-colored clothes flocking behind him. Without him knowing he has gotten used to (Y/n)'s antics in the past few days. The house was deathly silent, he hated it. The playing cards were returned to him when they would (Y/n)'s cold body in the warm sun with a smile on his face.

That smile haunted him for days before this funeral.

He didn't understand what kind of magic (Y/n) was used on him. A love spell perhaps but the guy can't even defend himself when he was poisoned with that fume!

Kuya hit the tree beside him and it immediately fell. (Y/n) (Y/n) (Y/n), that's all he's ever been thinking about after those days.

Why...?

Why?

Why?

He went into hiding until midnight struck. He went back to the funeral site and looked at the open coffin.

A century's worth of rage fell as he saw the corpse once again. He remembers that day clearly.

*A few weeks earlier*

(Y/n) laid on the floor and didn't come back for an hour.

"(Y/n) what are you doing?" Kuya said as he got a little annoyed at the other man as he looked at the ground. Kuya froze, he saw no hints of breathing from the chest area, and he heard no breaths.

The world was silent.

He remembers the face Eiden made when he saw Kuya entering Aster's mansion with a limp (Y/n) on his arms, assuming he was asleep having a good dream seeing how he smiled. Eiden made a half-smile attempt, at least he tried, those words were plastered on his face but when Eiden touched (Y/n)'s face, his face immediately fell. The way he looked at Kuya for confirmation.

The way he teared up as the despair consumed him.

The way that Kuya's guilt was eating up at him slowly as he failed to protect the young master's only friend.

The only friend he was able to talk to safely without fear of anything.

Talk about the world where they came from.

Now he can't do that anymore.

No one else can show him any more games...

*Present*

Kuya looked at the corpse in the grave before casting a spell to protect the casket from being eaten by the worms and have it dug up by other Yokai.

Eiden walked over. He knew Kuya had already detected him. Eiden touched Kuya's shoulders as he closed the casket.
"There is no banquet without him..." Kuya mumbled as he disappeared leaving Eiden standing there alone with the corpse.

He can't forget that haunting, peaceful smile.

It looked so innocent...
